Broadway by the Year, The Musicals of 1930 & 1964
Berkshire Theatre Festival, June 18-27, 2009

"
Broadway by the Year, now playing at the Berkshire Theatre Festival, is much more than the average musical review. An ensemble of talented singer/actors, Christiane Noll, Kerry O'Malley, and Scott Coulter, with musical director Ross Patterson at the grand piano, and host/writer Scott Siegel at a down left lectern, involve us in far more than a trip down memory lane...Songs this reviewer enjoyed most, though far more pleased as well, were O'Malley's 'Home Sweet Heaven', delivered from piano top by the returned spirit in the musical of Noel Coward's play...and 'Love For Sale', a haunting duet by [Noll and O'Malley]. [Also] among the evening's songs had been a delightful 'Don't Rain on My Parade' [sung by Kerry O'Malley]."  -Frances Benn Hall, BerkshireLinks.com

"The old saw about good things coming in small packages certainly applies to the quality of performers who have journeyed to the Berkshires: Golden-voiced divas Christiane Noll and Kerry O'Malley, and star of the cabaret scene, Scott Coulter. All are favorites with BBTY audiences in New York.  Individually and in some especially lovely ensemble numbers, Noll, O'Malley and Coulter make the beautiful songs part of this Berkshire Theatre Festival debut soar. And what songs!"  -Elyse Sommer,
CurtainUp

"Here's an absolutely stunning, classy, rip roaring time for everyone...The three members of the ensemble, Kerry O'Malley, Christiane Noll and Scott Coulter delivered their respective songs with great sophistication. All three voices were warm and winning, and sparkled in the upper registers...When the singers joined together for duets and trios, the ensemble work was absolutely enchanting, and the resultant sound a rich and sumptuous treat."  -Larry Murray, BerkshireFineArts.com

"Kerry O'Malley did her best work on 'Ten Cents A Dance' and 'Don't Rain On My Parade'... [Christiane Noll] and O'Malley also created dark delight with 'Love For Sale' from Cole Porter's 'New Yorkers.'"  -Michael Eck,
The Times Union

"[Scott] Coulter's mellow tenor was accompanied to great effect by [Kerry] O'Malley's powerful, rich voice with its great range, and [Christiane] Noll's beautiful high soprano... Highlights included Ms. O'Malley's second act opening shot-out-of-a-cannon rendition of 'Don't Rain on My Parade'... [and] Ms. O'Malley's lusty and fun 'Home Sweet Heaven' sung on top of the piano."  -Jacqueline T. Lynch, TragedyandComedyinNewEngland.blogspot.com

"Christiane Noll, Kerry O'Malley and Scott Coulter...sing wonderfully...[E]ach performer has an amazing sense of lyrical interpretation...O'Malley breaks your heart with 'Ten Cents A Dance' (from 'Simple Simon')."  -Bob Goepfert,
The Record

"O'Malley is genuinely engaging.  Her more clarion voice, strident when she needs that quality but soft and cooing at other times, is quite a wonderful instrument.  'Home, Sweet Heaven' is a rip-roaring 'gas of a, gas of a gas' number for her.  So is 'Ten Cents A Dance.'"  -J.
